Better Classroom
A Chrome extension that cleans up Google Classroom. Replace or remove class banners, put your own background behind the page, and cover posts from people you would rather not read.

How to install it
- Unzip the file somewhere you will keep it — Chrome loads the extension from that folder, so don't delete it afterwards.
- Open
chrome://extensionsand switch on Developer mode (top right). - Click Load unpacked and pick the unzipped folder.
- Open Google Classroom and click the extension's toolbar icon.
- Unzip the download — inside is a single
.crxfile. (It arrives zipped because Chrome deletes a bare.crxthe moment it decides not to install it.) - Open
chrome://extensionsand switch on Developer mode (top right). - Drag the
.crxonto that page and confirm the prompt. - Open Google Classroom and click the extension's toolbar icon.
If Chrome refuses it — CRX_REQUIRED_PROOF_MISSING means it
wants a Chrome Web Store signature — take the
.zip instead and use
Load unpacked on the unzipped folder.
On machines managed by policy, allow-list

Chrome 96 or newer. It only ever runs on classroom.google.com.
Something broken?
Use 🐞 Report a bug at the bottom of the extension's settings panel. It sends the version and which options are switched on — never your blocked names and never your images.
